Paris Fashion Week - Givenchy Alta Costura SS 2009
Givenchy. Guests entered the gothic Couvent des Cordeliers for Riccardo Tisci's Givenchy show--and were greeted by a runway strewn with rose petals and a lovely scent in the air (which wasn't coming from the faux fleurs). He began with pale beige, short body-con dresses with exaggerated shoulders, followed by a series of hooded dresses that evoked Tisci's gothic sensibilities. A series of delicate, draped chiffon dresses in hues of salmon, pale apple green, lichen and rose and a couple of floral numbers followed suit. Beneath the fragile fabrics there was a bandaging element that brought to mind Tisci's tough chicks of seasons past. A standout was the finale gown worn by Lily Donaldson--a draped black silk jersey worn with a bolero of black silk organza and stretch tulle, embroidered with black lace, jet beads, and hand-cut metallic 3-dimensional discs. Lou Doillon, a friend and fan of the designer's, gushed appropriately. "I loved the show and I'm always amazed by the work that he does. I like the elements that are gothic, mysterious and dreamy, so I really loved all those veils."
